This route starts at the Refuge J.M. Blanc in the Eastern part of the National Park of Aigüestortes and ends at Lake Saint Mauricio passing near the Refuge Mallafré Ernest.
Route that passes by several high mountain lakes, including Lake Negro (Black), the deepest lake of the park with 117m.
It is a rout of High level difficulty, depending on the season we do it, as the climb to the Mountain Pass Monesteros (2715 m) when there is snow can hinder its ascent. The route is well marked with signposts and milestones, but if there is snow it should be expected that will be hidden under it, or that the road is impassable.
Before making this route is advisable to consult the weather forecast for that day, asking at the shelter JM Blanc the status of the snow.
It is worth recalling that such routes need to be well equipped (it is essential to carry crampons if we do it in time of snow), it is a mountain path (we will go
near the Monestero Peak 2877m).
Departure from J.M. Blanc (Km. 0)
The route begins at the Refuge JM Blanc (2318m) at Lake Tort de Peguera on a
small peninsula surrounded by some rocky alpine vegetation, which will be the last at this point. It is a bucolic place where it is essential to make a picture.
We will leave the shelter and walk along the southwestern direction, around the
Lake Tort de Peguera and towards Lake Negro (Black), a large circular lake surrounded by granite peaks such as Sudora, Montañó and Mainera with almost 3000m of altitude.
We will leave behind a small lake and start climbing but quite uneven, from here we will provide stunning views of the Refuge JM Blanc, it seems that the shelter is floating in the middle of lakes Trullo and Peguera.

Hola, alguien me puede decir si se puede hacer esta ruta ida y vuelta en el mismo día?? Supongo que no, en tal caso, merecerá la pena hacer una parte y regresar??

Hola Bea, tal vez sea un poco dura para hacerla ida y vuelta, pero si empiezas a caminar temprano y si el recorrido lo haces en verano no es imposible, ya que en verano los días son más largos (hasta las 21h hay luz). En todo caso si quieres tener el Refugio J.M.Blanc como centro de operaciones siempre puedes ir hasta el Lago de Monestero y volver (me imagino que el Lago de San Mauricio ya lo conoces).

A principios de Julio subiré al Monastero y al Peguera desde el Refugio J.M. Blanc. Haré noche y a la mañana siguiente atacaré y luego de vuelta a Espot por Sr. Mauricio. Será largo...e inolvidable, una experiencia única.

Tengo previsto ir de Espot a J.M. Blanc el 9 de octubre hacer noche y allí y al día siguiente no sabemos si subir Monastero o quedarnos por el Estany Negre. Alguien me puede decir si ya hay nieve en esta época?? Gracias!!

Hola Mar, lo mejor es que llames al refucio de JM Blanch y preguntes por la situación meteorológica. En la ruta de Espot - Amitges encontraras un link a todos los refugios de Cataluña. Por otro lado comentarte que esta semana han bajado las temperaturas y que en Espot a cota 2300 estaban a 4ºC durante el día así que si llueve es posible que nieve aunque no cuaje.

Hello rbn, the route from Amitges to JMBlanch might be too difficult for a 10years old kid if you go over the "monestero" mountain, but it all depends on the kid of course... :) On the other hand, you can choose to go following a wide path that surrounds the mountain (Amitges-StMaurice lake-follow the signs or ask at the tourist information point there). The scenery is not so dramatic (you will see less water!), but other than the distance, you shouldnt find any major problems. Hope this helps!!

Toda la família hicimos el verano pasado una ruta semejante en un solo dia (dos adultos, dos adolescentes de 14 y 16 años y una niña de 10). La ruta que hicimos fue Prat de Pierro (Parquins Sant Maurici), Refugi Ernest Mallafré, Vall de Monestero y Coll de Monestero, ascensión a la cima del Monestero, Estanys amagats, refugio Josep M. Blanc, Espot. Caminamos unas 8 horas con paradas incluidas. Precioso. Para repetir.
