Ruta St. Fost - Castell Castellruf
Descrition Route
path, hidden among the vegetation, which leads to the Fountain of Gurri, which is dry but we'll see depending on the time of the day, how the sun's rays penetrate through the trees getting a vision of a fairy tale!. Will return to that main path behind us to visit the next fountain, which is not far, only about 10 minutes.
This fountain, the Mercè's Fountain, is signposted and you can almost see it from the path.
Fuente del Gurri
It lies at the lowest point of the trail and as the signal signal shows, we have over than an hour to reach the summit and the Castle Castellruf.
If we get closer to the fountain we can see that is more well-preserved and still flowing water than the previous one, is a good time to refresh ourselves because the hardest part of the route is yet to come, we have to climb all over the unevenness we have already done.
We continue on the path that left behind us, it will be going up for about 2 km. doing zig-zags in the mountains and
sometimes with a sharp drop.
While we are going up we could see at our left and in front of us a mountain with a castle, the St. Miquel's Castle
Castillo de San Miquel
After approximately 30 minutes of ascent, we reach another deflection signposted. If we continue straight we will go into a quarry and would do a tour much longer, about 16km. From here we can see in the distance the Montserrat mountain.
Vistas de Montserrat
At our right we can see a small road that
goes between the bushes and that leads to the Castellruf Castle , this castle only retains a small portion of a wall and its difficult to see it between the vegetation.
There are documentation since 1060 and is a part of the remains of an Iberian settlement situated in the Hill of Castellruf (459 meters). It was abandoned or destroyed at the beginning of the second century BC as a result of economic and political changes, as well as the military campaigns of Marc Porci Cató, consul known as Cató the Censor during the Second Punic War.
Dolmen de Castellruf
We continue down the path at our left and only about 10 meters we find an old Dolmen, that is signposted and you can almost see from the road.
After that stop we just continue by the path that goes among the mountains for about 600 meters, we have doen the most difficult part of the way, only remains continuing for about 15 minutes to reach the deflection at our right that leads us to the initial part of the route.
