Smugglers Route
Description Route
This is an easy route suitable for all family, of short duration with a very gentle slope.
While we can move up from Pontaut to Saint Joan de Toran by going by the road
Canejan - Porcingles
along the River Toran, if we bring two cars we can leave one at Pontaut and the other at the little parking we'll find at the entrance of Saint Joan of Toran.
Canejan - Porcingles
In this route we will explain the short version, which, on the other hand, is the one that we will take if we come from the Dera Honeria Refugee. The route will begin at the Dera Honeria Refugee, located at an altitude of 1015m. We will follow down the track that leads to the road Pontaut - Sant Joan de Toran.
When we get to the road, 500 meters after our departure, we will take the road to the village center of Saint Joan de Toran, few meters away from a small parking.
If you brought two cars, you can start the route at this point.
On the walls of the houses of the village,
Canejan - Porcingles
near a public sink, we will find indications of the way that we will take: the GR-211. The hardest part of this route begins just a few steps from where we are, a heavy slope near the walls of a house, which
Canejan - Porcingles
soon traverses fields and abandoned buildings until the first forest.
Canejan - Porcingles
It is not possible to get lost, because the road is unique and is signalled with the red and white marks of a GR.
Few meters away of a small stream we will
Canejan - Porcingles
reach the highest point of this route, 1250m.
From here we will walk along a light slope during 7km until our destination: Canejan. Our route will takes us to the small village of Porcingles, which we will cross following the GR-211 markings and leaving one small laundry on our right.
The road passes through orchards and is now about rather wide, lined with stone margins. Continue straight until you reach a crossroads at left hand. That new path is the PR-114, and it will be with us up to Canejan.
At this part of the route, looking to the south, we can enjoy some magnificent views of the Toran dark valley. Continue following the path (which is still paved today with stones in some areas) and cross another small stream. We can see Lana Era Les and the Massif Madaleta far at our front. After a slight slope and leaving a small laundry at our right, we reach the town centre of Canejan, the Town Hall Square. At this point the PR-114 ends and we must continue following the marks of the GR-211, down the street 'Carrera'.
At the end of this street we will see again our previous path, and we will follow it down until Pontaut, the final destination of our excursion.
