The region of Osona is midway between the Pyrenees and the sea, having at north the Ripollés Pre-Pyrenees and at south along the Prelitoral mountains with Montseny and Matagalls of 1694m.
Comprises four subregions represented by Plana de Vic, Lluçanés, Collsacabra or Cabrera and Guilleries of Ponent. Plana de Vic has historically been the area of transition between Barcelona and the Pyrenees. Its forest is mainly pubescent oak with boxwood, pine, and can alternate with red pine. But also contains large areas devoted to the cultivation of cereals. Collsacabra and the Guilleries territories are for forestry and livestock, there are many evergreen oaks, oak and chestnuts. Lluçanés is an area of transition to Berguedá. Osona has three high-value natural landscape, ecological and cultural such as the Natural Park of Montseny, the Natural Area of Guilleries-Savassona and the Park and Montesquiu's Castle.
It is of the most important historic regions of Catalonia. The ancient Ausa was the center of the ausetanos' village, located in the current Vic, giving name of the territory (formerly Ausona). Part of its charm lies in the beauty of historical monuments that are located throughout the region: old castles, Romanesque churches and parishes, walls and remnants of ancient civilizations, such as the Iberian.
The most important architecture in this area is the Romanesque, whith hundreds of Roman buildings, which let you see the evolution of this style, dominating the samples of the First Romanesque or Lombard Romanesque. But also contains other periods such as the Baroque and modernism.
You can make sports: bungee jumping, canoeing, golf, climbing, karting, balloon flights, or walk along the trails of small or big tour, biking excursions routes, horse riding .. .
It is essentially an agricultural and ranching region resulting in an industry famous sausages. His cuisine is simple yet delicious, some recognized dishes are Catalan escudella, rabbit rum or grilled meat.
Also are known some tourist activities that are held annually in Vic as the Mercat del Ram (Branck Market) or the Mercat Medieval (Medieval Market, where people are dressed in period costumes.
